Hello, everyone, My name is Mrs. Jewett , and I will be teaching 6th grade ELA/HEALTH at St. Agnes Cathedral School this year. I am very excited to watch you all grow and learn in this 2024-2025 school year.
I taught 6th grade ELA and Literature for 11 years here at St. Agnes Cathedral School. Then made the decision to stay home to take care of my three daughters. I came back to St. Agnes in 2023 as a substitute teacher and had the pleasure to teach first grade. I continued to teach first grade for the 2023-2024 school year, but now I am happy to be back to my old stomping grounds. To be back in my original classroom and teaching all of you is very exciting.
We will have a GREAT year!

Students should check Google Classroom daily for homework, announcements, and classroom resources.
Be prepared to be immersed in literature, writing, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary on a daily basis. I promise you that your ability to read and write will grow exponentially this year. The outstanding news is that most of you will grow a deeper appreciation of the written word. By June, you will be able to read and write with much more ease, confidence, and sophistication.
We will be reading our independent novels as well as our classroom novels, nine, ten: A September 11 Story and The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. We will learn how to respond to our reading by expressing our thoughts in essay writing. We will stregnthen our skills through the analysis of the language of texts involved in Close Reading. In addition, we will practice how to respond to short-response questions by fousing on text evidence and utilizing the R.A.C.E (Restate, Answer, Cite, Explain) writing strategy. Lastly, we will continue to acquire English skills as we regularly practice grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation.
The NYS ELA Exam will begin Wednesday April 10th. During class, we will continue to practice the reading and writing skill expectations for 6th grade. A supplemental five week, ELA prep class will begin in March. Please be sure to register for this program in February. A parent email along with the signup with be sent out prior to the start date.
"Mary Shows Us the Way".
As we begin this journey, we turn to the Blessed Mother for her guidance and protection, asking her to keep us safe under her mantle. We seek her blessings for our students, parents, faculty, and clergy, that we may embody her virtues of humility, compassion, and love in all we do. In her motherly embrace, we find comfort and strength. We entrust this school year to her care, confident that she will show us the way to her Son and help us grow in faith.
In Health, we will work on building new healthy habits!
Some topics will include proper hygiene, nutrition, healthy living and developing positive mindsets which will help us tackle challenges.
O my God, I love Thee above all things with my whole heart and soul, because Thou art all good and worthy of all love. I love my neighbor as myself for love of Thee. I forgive all who have injured me, and I ask pardon for all whom I have injured.
